El Rio Latin Market Dedicated to Support of Children's Health

“Because Children's Health is a not-for-profit hospital, we have the ability to help the hospital provide life-saving treatments to children and families in our community," said Karina Veloz, Training Manager at El Rio Grande Latin Market 

Hamdy Shalabi is one of the owners of El Rio Grande Latin Market in association with his family. 

“Although we are Americans of Middle Eastern descent, there are many Latin American traditions in our family from our time growing up in Puerto Rico. Our dinners were always as diverse as our upbringing. Meals could range from a steak to a falafel or a ceviche. 

The first store we opened is on Maple Avenue, just down the street from Children's Medical Center Dallas. I remember patients' families coming to the store because it was close to the hospital, and that's what inspired us nearly a decade ago to donate to Children's Health℠ through point-of-sale campaigns at the cash register.  

The most important thing we have learned in recent years is that nothing is stronger or more beautiful than humanity. No one is in need more than sick children and their families, and we are proud to partner with Children's Health each year.
